Biodun Oyebanji Makes History as Ekiti Governor, Begins Second Term

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has made history as the first governor to begin two consecutive four-year terms since the state's creation in 1996, breaking a 30-year succession pattern in its political history. Oyebanji and his deputy, Monisade Afuye, were sworn in on Friday, 16 October 2026, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, with the state's Chief Judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, administering the oaths of office. The inauguration followed Oyebanji's victory in the June 20 governorship election, in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate secured 319,224 votes against 40,543 for his closest challenger, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu at the ceremony, calling on the governor to prioritise youth empowerment, public service and inclusive governance as he begins another four years in office. Under his second-term agenda, "The Good Work Continues", Oyebanji has outlined priorities including road infrastructure, electricity, agriculture, food security, healthcare and economic opportunities for young people. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and several serving governors attended the ceremony, marking a significant moment in Ekiti State's political history.SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel:    / newscentraltvafrica   for more videos Follow News Central on: Facebook:   / newscentralafrica   Twitter:   / newscentraltv   Instagram:   / newscentraltv   LinkedIn:   / feed   Threads: https://www.threads.net/@newscentraltv TikTok:   / newscentraltv   WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va4T...
