The Buckner Trade Is a HUGE Win for the 49ers — Mark Schlereth

DeForest Buckner is a Niner again, and the 49ers’ defensive line suddenly looks a lot different. Former NFL lineman and analyst Mark Schlereth joins the show to break down what this trade means for a defense that needed more interior pass rush and help against the run. Is it a legit top 10 line? Could it approach the top 5? Schlereth explains why one star pass rusher isn’t enough, and why offenses are in real trouble once they have to worry about two or three problem players up front. He also gets into how quickly Buckner can pick up Raheem Morris’s scheme, why Fred Warner makes that transition easier, and why the leadership and brotherhood a returning player brings can matter in a title chase. Topics discussed include: Why the Buckner trade is a big-time move for the 49ers How interior push in the pocket helps the edge rushers, even without big sack numbers Nick Bosa, Mykel Williams, Keion White, and Buckner on a healthy line Why offenses can’t double team everybody How fast Buckner can learn Raheem Morris’s defense Whether this line belongs in the NFL’s top 10 or top 5 The Atlanta game and what it showed about the pass rush What young linemen can learn from a veteran like Buckner Is the Buckner trade enough to make the 49ers’ defense elite?
