A glass hall of palms after closing, the iron ribs of the roof holding back the night. One lamp. One person. Nothing else asking for your attention.
This is Work Room — a place to put your work down inside of, and stay there for a while.
Just over two hours of classical strings written for deep work: a quartet that keeps moving without ever asking to be listened to. No vocals. No drops. No sudden changes. The music is built to sit behind thought rather than in front of it, so that after the first few minutes you stop hearing it as music and start hearing it as the shape of the room you are working in.

WHAT THIS IS FOR
· Deep work — long, uninterrupted stretches on one difficult thing
· Focus and concentration at a desk, in an office, or late at night
· Studying, reading, and revision
· Writing, coding, designing, research
· Working from home when the house is too quiet, or not quiet enough
· Calming a restless mind before starting
HOW TO USE IT
Start it before you begin, not after you are already distracted. Set the volume just below the level where you can pick out individual instruments — the point is for the music to become the floor of the room rather than something happening in it. Then start your timer and work until the piece is over. Two hours is roughly two long focus blocks with short breaks, or one very long session if the work is going well.
Headphones make the low strings fuller, but this was mixed to work on laptop speakers too.
ABOUT THE MUSIC
Classical ambience for deep work: string quartet, felt piano, and cello, arranged in slow overlapping phrases. Every track was chosen for what it does not do — no percussion, no build, no melody insistent enough to follow. The tempo stays in the range where the body settles rather than moves. Tracks cross into one another so there are no gaps to fall through and nothing to mark the passing of time.
The recording is continuous. There is no track list to check, and that is deliberate. Looking at the time is how a focus session ends.
ABOUT THE ROOM
The great glasshouse at night. Ironwork arches over a long stone walk, palms standing in the dark on both sides, a single lamp burning at the far end. Somewhere along the path, one person standing still.
Every video on this channel is one room like this — a place large enough to be quiet in, and empty enough to work in. The rooms are places you cannot go. That is the point of them.
