Life In Fiji | The Heart Of The South Pacific
Beyond the turquoise waters, luxury resorts, and picture-perfect beaches is a country of nearly one million people living across hundreds of islands. From the busy streets and markets of Suva to remote villages where fishing, farming, and community traditions shape everyday life, Fiji is far more than a tropical paradise.
In this video, we travel across Fiji to explore what daily life actually looks like from crowded buses and local markets to kava ceremonies, sugar cane fields, fishing communities, and families balancing traditional lifestyles with a modern economy.
We’ll also look at the enormous role tourism plays in Fiji, the importance of remittances and agriculture, and the cultural history that connects iTaukei and Indo-Fijian communities.
But Fiji is facing a challenge that is becoming impossible to ignore.
Rising seas, stronger storms, changing reefs, and coastal erosion are already affecting communities. In some places, entire villages have had to move inland. Vunidogoloa became one of the most visible examples when its residents relocated their village away from the rising sea.
So what happens when the ocean that provides food, jobs, and tourism is also threatening homes and communities?
This is the story of everyday life in Fiji the beautiful, complicated reality behind the postcard.
