In my first three trips to the WNYP in the summer of 2019, none of the trains I chased made it past Turtlepoint. It was therefore pretty exciting when I finally got to see trains conquering the 2 1/2% grade up to Keating Summit, PA, the primary focus of this video. The footage shown in this video covers three railfanning trips from September 2019 each from a day when an Emporium Turn ran. Frac sand is the lifeblood of the railroad these days, and comprises a large portion of the railroad's business. Emporium, PA is the location of one of two frac sand transloading facilities (the other is at Turtlepoint, PA) so the railroad was busy moving 2-bay sand hoppers to and from the transload sites. As well as the Emporium turns, I also shot the Farmers Valley turn a few times along with an OL-2 that was a combined Salamanca/Cuba turn. The days I shot this video, the Emporium turns were all powered by the same pair of ex-Cartier M636's, numbers 685-638. The sights and sounds of these interesting and rare MLW's is something I won't soon forget, and I hope you enjoy them as well.
As always, thank you for watching.
Peter.
