Wolastoq Song (1 of 2)

Wolastoqew Nil. I am a person of the beautiful and bountiful river, Wolastoq. Many people know Wolastoq as St. John River. Her name was changed by Samuel de Champlain in 1604. It is important that we reclaim our traditional names and spaces. In Wolastokuk, we have our own honour song, Wolastoq Song. This song was translated by the late Gwen Bear, Sagatay. It is important that we all understand whose homelands we reside on and to honor Wolastoq by reclaiming her name.
