In 1996, two drops of dimethylmercury changed chemistry forever. Dr. Karen Wetterhahn was wearing standard latex gloves, but an 'invisible neurotoxin' permeated them in seconds. Dr. Wetterhahn was a world-renowned expert in toxic metal exposure, yet a seemingly minor lab accident led to a tragic chemical disaster that reshaped global safety protocols. Dimethylmercury (CH3-Hg-CH3) is a volatile organometallic compound with extreme toxicity and a terrifyingly high rate of skin absorption.
