Before the United States existed, North America was already home to thousands of Indigenous nations, cultures, languages, governments, trade networks, and spiritual traditions.
This historical documentary explores the untold history of Indigenous peoples—from their ancient origins and diverse societies to European colonization, disease, forced removal, broken treaties, boarding schools, resistance, cultural survival, and sovereignty.
The documentary covers the history of the Powhatan, Pueblo, Cherokee, Diné, Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, Arapaho, and many other Indigenous nations. It examines the arrival of European powers, Jamestown, the Pueblo Revolt, the Indian Removal Act, the Trail of Tears, the Long Walk of the Diné, the seizure of the Black Hills, Little Bighorn, Wounded Knee, and the forced assimilation of Indigenous children through boarding schools.
But this is not only a story of loss. It is also a story of diplomacy, political leadership, cultural survival, language revival, community strength, resistance, and sovereignty.
Indigenous peoples did not disappear. They are not relics of the past. They are contemporary nations with their own governments, citizens, cultures, memories, rights, and futures.
This documentary asks: Who was already here before America was America? Whose land was taken? Whose history was written—and whose history was ignored? What was the true cost of European “discovery”? And how did Indigenous nations survive, resist, and continue into the present?
Watch until the end to understand why the history of Indigenous nations is not only American history—it is world history.
Terminology note: “Red Indian” is an outdated colonial term and is considered offensive by many people today. This documentary uses Indigenous peoples, Native peoples, and specific nation names whenever possible.
This video is created for educational and historical purposes. Some dates, population estimates, casualty figures, and interpretations may differ across scholarly and Indigenous sources.
