All Creatures Animal Clinic is a veterinary hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We see dogs, cats and companion exotic house pets. This video is intended to educate our clients on the proper technique for giving insulin injections in cats. This process is similar to giving insulin to dogs, though we often use different types of insulin than the one depicted in this video. All medical treatment of your pets should be done in consultation with your veterinarian. Discuss your pet's specific type of insulin with your veterinarians- some need to be shaken, some need to be rolled and inverted and some do not require any preparation in advance. The insulin shown in this video (Lantus/glargine) does not require any mixing/rolling/shaking before you draw up your dose. Check with your veterinarian about how to properly store your insulin and when to dispose of it. Check to make sure that you know how to recognize signs of low blood sugar and also what to do in if your pet skips a meal. Double check your doses carefully.
