A Mother’s Gift: New moms at Mercy Hospital find healing power in the placenta

Cacciarelli donated her placenta — the organ that nourishes a baby during pregnancy — through a Mercy Hospital St. Louis program called "Beginnings and Blessings." The program gives new mothers the option to donate their placentas, which are rich in cells that can be used to help others recover from injury or illness.
