Summer is settled in and a storm pops up as we head to the Scioto Grove Metro Park to backpack on the REI River Trail. We’ll hike beside the Scioto River, through the rain until we reach campsite 3.
As we arrive the rain lets up as I get camp set up. Rain is expected throughout the night so I’ll hang up a tarp to shelter under incase the storms return for dinner.
The extra cloud cover and the trees mean it gets dark pretty quick. So, I’ll clip my headlamp to the tarp to get dinner started. Tonight’s dish is going to be a summer classic of steak fajitas.
With a full belly it’s time for bed where we’re lulled to sleep by overnight showers.
In the morning the skies clear and we can have a simple Spam & swiss breakfast sandwich and of course a cup of coffee.
The nice morning means the park starts to get busy so it’s time to pack up and let others enjoy the outdoors.
Now we can retrace our steps as the bright summer sun glistens off the Scioto River on our way back to the trailhead to close out a stormy and sunny trip all without straying out of the city.
I hope you’ll enjoy the video and if you do, please share it with someone who can enjoy a peaceful spot inside the hustle and bustle of the city.
