ZARATHUSTRA | చరిత్రలో అతని ప్రభావం
Zarathustra (Zoroaster) is one of the most influential religious thinkers in human history. His teachings transformed the religious world of ancient Iran and gave rise to Zoroastrianism, a tradition centered around Ahura Mazda and the principle of Asha — truth, righteousness, justice and cosmic order.
In this episode, we explore the world of Zarathustra and the religious reforms associated with him. We look at the ancient Iranian religious traditions from which his ideas emerged, and how his teachings developed into one of the world's earliest major traditions centered around a supreme divine principle.
We also explore the long-term influence of Zoroastrian ideas. Concepts associated with the Iranian religious tradition have been discussed in relation to the development of later Abrahamic religions, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam. But Zarathustra's intellectual legacy did not remain confined to religion.
His ideas and image continued to echo in the works of thinkers and writers such as Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Nietzsche and Rumi, and even in the social reform thought of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Each encountered or interpreted these ideas in very different historical and philosophical contexts.
At the heart of this episode is one central question:
What is Asha, and what kind of world did Zarathustra want human beings to build?
We also look at the fascinating relationship between ancient India and ancient Iran. Both emerged from related Indo-Iranian cultural and linguistic traditions, yet their religious traditions eventually developed in strikingly different directions.
Finally why the idea of Asha can still carry philosophical relevance in the modern world.
This episode is ultimately not just about an ancient religion.
It is about truth, order, morality, human choice, and the kind of world we choose to create.
