BOY GEORGE Don't Cry Japan Mini Album + single bonus FIVE FULL TRACKS

This video includes all the tracks from the Japanese 3" CD Mini-Album of Boy George's "Don't Cry", as well as the two tracks from the UK 7" single of the same. "Don't Cry" was the first song released from the ill-fated "Tense Nervous Headache" album, that was revised and re-worked multiple times at the label's insistence, but never did get an official release in the UK. There are copies of the CD that say "Made in the UK", but those were sent to continental Europe for sale when the UK release date was pushed back originally. Although the single was not a hit anywhere in the world, the album showed enough promise in Europe and Japan for the US branch to consider it. They ordered George back to the recording studio, and paired him with Teddy Riley to create new tracks for the US release, which was re-titled "Tripping Over Mother", but was changed at the last minute to "High Hat". The four new songs from that release were issued in Europe and Japan as an 8-song remix album called "Boyfriend", based on the US success of the first single, "Don't Take My Mind On A Trip". But those new songs were not the only changed made for "High Hat". The version of "Don't Cry" was also different from the UK single release; the label worked some techno wizardry on the track and sped up the vocals without drastically changing the tempo. The process was fairly new at the time, but would become very commonplace in the 1990's for remixes and club versions. Many fans believe George re-recorded the vocal for the US version, but I do not believe he even knew that track was tampered with. The artwork I chose for this video is the UK 7" single sleeve & labels, the Japanese 3" CD mini-album artwork, the European 7" single sleeve (with alternate design), a promo photo and press release from Virgin UK announcing the release, and the UK 5" CD artwork.
