Take Off With Pete | Norfolk Island to Sydney | Qantas | Boeing B737-800 | QF180 | Part 1 of 3

✈️ Welcome aboard Part 1 of another 3-part journey with Take Off With Pete! — travelling from Norfolk Island all the way to Broome via Sydney and Perth. In this flight, we're travelling from Norfolk Island (NLK) to Sydney (SYD) aboard a Qantas Boeing 737-800. It was a wet and windy day on Norfolk Island, with passing showers around the airport as we departed from Runway 11. Earlier, the arriving aircraft had attempted to land on Runway 29 but performed a go-around following windshear and an unstable approach on short final, before coming around and landing safely on Runway 11. The weather apps were showing almost a direct crosswind, although from the windsock there appeared to be more of a tailwind component for Runway 29 — certainly an interesting afternoon for flying on Norfolk! For this flight I was sitting in seat 5A. I normally love sitting on the right-hand side when leaving Norfolk Island for the beautiful views over Kingston, but this time I decided to mix things up. After checking Windy.com, I knew we were likely to land in Sydney on Runway 34L, where the left side can offer some fantastic views of Sydney, the harbour and the surrounding suburbs on final approach. And it certainly delivered! After leaving the showers behind at Norfolk Island, we eventually arrived into Sydney with some spectacular late-afternoon light, changing weather and great views across the city and harbour before landing on Runway 34L. The flight was a little longer than usual at just under three hours due to headwinds, but that only meant a little more time to enjoy the view!
