Grit, grace, and a growing town: Mayor Paige Brown

Growing without losing your identity is hard for a town and for a business. Gallatin Mayor Paige Brown has worked on that question from the chamber of commerce and from city hall, and she knows what she wants her hometown to keep. Paige grew up in Gallatin and graduated from high school early to leave it. She studied at Florida State, hosted a TV show in Tallahassee at 17, and worked as a reporter, anchor, and producer. A job at The Nashville Network brought her back to Middle Tennessee, followed by feature work at News Channel 5. After the 2006 tornado, she decided she wanted to be home. She led the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce for eight years, served on the county commission, and was first elected mayor of Gallatin in 2014. The Tennessee Municipal League named her its 2021 Mayor of the Year. In this conversation, Paige explains why she left the news business when balance gave way to opinion, and the sentence she uses to leave room for changing her mind.
