Start Big Fishing in FFXIV

Big Fishing in FFXIV is optional side content for the fisher class, having you catch "impressive denizens of the deep once thought to be mere legend." These fish are highly conditional compared to their common counterparts - having time, weather, or both! criteria which must be met for the fish to be able to bite. Big Fishing specifically exemplifies the community-aspect of FFXIV, and relies heavily on community created tools and resources in order to quickly and easily identify available fish. Big Fishing does not require a high level of investment to start, and can begin as low as Lv.50. To begin you just need: Folklore Tomes for regions you're fishing in Gear to surpass the minimum gathering rating needed for the big fish you're after. Bait that the big fish bites one Once you have that, you can use resources like ones below to identify which big fish are available and when. If you are new, I recommend doing the quests "Beasts of Brewer's Beacon" and "Feast of Famine," unlocked at the Fisher's Guild in Limsa by talking to Sisipu after completing the Lv.50 class quest. If you are able to complete these quests, you'll have almost all the strategies needed to tackle any big fish in the game.
