Part One Of Two : - Here is another Big Don archived news special, this time from The TCN 9 Vault of 1986, must be advancing in years as the memories are still vivid from those times, although the fashion & kit of course certainly looks '80's. Nice to see one of New Zealand's best exports, Brian Hendo Henderson showing some of today's newsreaders how it's done. I know everything I need to know, cause Brian told me so, was the The Nine mantra of the time, good for Nine's overall budget too as Melbourne's GTV had another Brian, Brian Naylor doing the same gig & same jingo. Naylor died in the Victorian Black Saturday fires of 2009, a great loss to the people of that State. Some of the main stories of the time were : Dollar Dives. Roger The Dodger Rogerson faces dismissal from NSW Police, gotta love The Dodger's Bentley though ! Not the best career move to help Koreans like this : A couple of Aussie Customs Officers show how to supplement their 1980's income, surely they could have moonlighted as Dodger Deputies & not been caught ? We should all feel very lucky that we live in a new Millennium where our public officials are as honest as the day is long, that's not including daylight savings of course. Australian Government concerned about US stealing Aussie wheat markets. The case of the dissolving betting slips. (Would NSW Coppers come to a watery end ?) Nifty Nev Wran gives another Premier Bazza his smiling endorsement (but we knew Neville was just being kind.) John Howard shows the punters how to get blood from ALP stones (a most interesting medical procedure, when science discovers how.) Darren Clark misses 400m. Gold, Debbie Flintoff wins 400m. at The XIII Commonwealth Games, Edinburgh. Also at the Games, England's Sarah Hardcastle puts Aussie swimmers in their place & Canada's Ben Johnson wins 100m. (But is caught out at Seoul 1988 as a drug cheat.) Tour De France won by America's Greg LeMond. Nigel Mansell gets 3rd. in W.Germany at German Grand Prix, but still leads championship. Alan Wilkie's weather. (Nice to see it presented with the impressive title of Meteorologist.) RAAF retiring it's remaining Mirage Jet Fighters & finally Hendo closes with the observation that Mike Willesee's show has a lot of catching up to Nine News & it's near 11,000 EP's. I think the most interesting reversing of history in this bulletin is the peril The AUD was in, compared to today's US exchange rate. But one has to wonder if this really is history in reverse as a strong Aussie Dollar can be as bad as a weak one, depending on how it is managed, not only by Forex Traders, but also by The Government. Part Two Of Two Here :    • BRIAN TOLD ME SO ON 28/07/1986 Part Two.   Footnote : Seems that some at ABC NEWS 24 might have had relos working at TCN 9 in The 1980's ? This looks more like an ABC stuff up to me. Check out "Prime Hawke" @ the 3:38 mark ! ☺
