Without understanding of a person, his inner desires, his moods, it’s not possible to please him. The goal of life is to please the Lord, but we should very clearly understand His nature, His desires and His mood. Majority of people in Kali yuga don’t believe in God, or they believe in some so-called incarnations, they invent incarnations for their own sense gratification. Therefore this question about divinity of Lord Chaitanya is very important for us. The Lord comes every yuga to help people. In Kali yuga people are very sick, their disease is envy, so Lord Chaitanya is the most merciful incarnation, He brought the most powerful medicine, without asking any qualification. With every age degradation takes place, and evolution as well. And in this age the main book is Sri Chaitanya-Charitamrita, it is the essence of Srimad- Bhagavatam, and it says that the goal of all human endeavors is prema bhakti. We can’t understand God does not matter how good our brain is. The main characteristic of God is love. If you try to understand Gog by your intellectual endeavors, you will be totally bewildered at the end of the day. This is not the way to understand God, you can only understand God by His mercy. Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya before meeting with Lord Chaitanya was an atheist, he believed in Veda, but did not believe in God. He became attracted to Lord Chaitanya, one moment he thought, that Lord Chaitanya is God Himself, but then his rational mind took over and he developed arrogant attitude towards the Lord. He decided to re-initiate Him, when Gopinath Acharya had heard this he became mad. He said that Lord Chaitanya is God Himself, but you did not get His mercy, that’s why you don’t understand it. The sign of the mercy of God upon you is that you can recognize God everywhere. If you don’t have mercy of God, even if you see God Himself in front of you, you will not recognize Him. Lord Chaitanya came to Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya and gave him mercy, so Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya became a devotee of Lord Chaitanya by the mercy of Gopinath Acharya. The mercy of the Lord comes only by the mercy of a devotee.
