Enthoranpithappane (എന്തൊരൻപിതപ്പനേ)
Performed by the CSI St. James Church Choir, Muscat during Uyarppin Dhwani, an Easter recital hosted by the Mar Thoma Church Choir in Oman.
Written and composed by Rev. Justus Joseph (Vidwankutty Achen), Enthoranpithappane is a deeply reflective Malayalam Christian hymn centred on the immeasurable love of God revealed through the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The hymn contemplates the mystery of the Father giving His beloved Son for humanity, moving through the anguish of Gethsemane, the shedding of Christ’s blood, and the wonder of such grace being shown to the sinner. It ultimately becomes a personal response of humility, gratitude and worship before God.
Justus Joseph, also known as Vidwankutty Achen, was one of the pioneering figures of Malayalam Christian hymnody. A scholar, musician and clergyman of the nineteenth century, he composed hundreds of hymns shaped by the classical and Carnatic musical tradition, many of which continue to be sung across Kerala churches today.
