Tour:    • Lovetown Tour (1989 - 1990)   | Leg 1: Australia, New Zealand & Japan Date: 4 November 1989 Venue: Lancaster Park City: Christchurch, New Zealand Used recording(s): • Audience recording (B+/B): Lineage unknown This is the first of a handful of "Lovetown" concerts in New Zealand and one of the biggest shows on the entire tour, drawing in a crowd of 60,000 spectators - unofficial sources even claim attendance figures up to 65,000. Despite this, the audience sounds a bit less ecstatic than the ones in Melbourne and Sydney although this could also just be a case of an outdoor recording hiding most of the audience noise, especially since tonight's tape is far from great sounding. The setlist is pretty classic for the most part, additionally having "Gloria" as the third song and a "Joshua Tree" encore in the end. The performance is actually quite interesting, as Bono's voice is still clearly recovering from the laryngitis that had forced the rescheduling of the late-October Sydney shows, slightly weakening him without any downright bad moments occurring - on the other hand, "All I Want Is You" is one of the best performances of the song ever! The band are doing well although Edge plays a horrific bum note during "Pride".
