Can you believe a pile of raw wood can become something that truly sings? Watch as we take humble staves and meticulously craft them, piece by painstaking piece, into a snare drum so rich and resonant it will blow your mind. You won't just see a drum being built; you'll hear its soul come to life.
This is my first attempt at building a full size professional stave snare drum
I don't have a lot of experience woodworking but am fairly handy. I used Walnut and Maple for the staves. I used 24 stave, cut to 1.8 inches at its widest point. Each side was cut at a 7.5 degree angle. I used Tightbond III for the glue up. The drum was milled to 3/8th inches thick. Hand sanded from 40 grit to 220 grit. Natural Danish Oil applied for the finish color. High Gloss Lacquer finish. Inner Drum Sanded to 3000 Grit. Rubber isolators used on all mounting surfaces. Antique bronze hardware from Rech Cymbals and Drum Factory Project. Evans G1 heads.
