🌍 *Class 11 Science – Gravitation | NCERT Example 7.4*
Can a projectile travel from one massive sphere to another? What is the minimum speed required for it to reach the surface of the second sphere?
In this video, we solve an interesting NCERT Gravitation problem involving two uniform solid spheres of equal radii but different masses.
📘 *Problem Covered:*
Two uniform solid spheres of equal radii R, but masses M and 4M, have a centre-to-centre separation of 6R. A projectile of mass m is projected from the surface of the sphere of mass M directly towards the centre of the second sphere.
Find the minimum speed v of the projectile so that it reaches the surface of the second sphere.
📚 *What You'll Learn:*
✅ Understanding gravitational potential energy
✅ Gravitational interaction between two massive spheres
✅ Applying the principle of conservation of mechanical energy
✅ Finding the minimum speed of a projectile
✅ Understanding the role of gravitational potential
✅ Step-by-step NCERT numerical solution
💡 *Key Concept:*
The total gravitational potential energy of the projectile is determined by the gravitational contributions of both spheres.
The minimum speed is obtained by applying conservation of energy between the initial position and the point where the projectile just reaches the second sphere.
🎯 *This video is useful for:*
