The Olympic Peninsula hosts some of the most productive forests in the world. Its active geology and temperate oceanic climate allow for relatively fast soil formation and effective nutrient cycling. While working on a project investigating the connection between soil properties and forestry growth responses, we discovered how ONRC’s LTEP (Long Term Ecosystem Productivity) experiment in Sappho, WA provides hints into early ecosystem development in a post-glacial world on the Olympic Peninsula.
