Accountability creates ownership. Micromanagement creates dependence. How can leaders establish ownership without controlling people? In Episode 3 of THE IDEA CYCLE — Season 4: Administration, Mychael King explains how to build accountability through clear expectations, meaningful authority, practical support, and predictable review. Sometimes what looks like an accountability problem is actually a clarity problem. People need to understand the results they own, the decisions they can make, and when progress will be reviewed. In this mini leadership class, you’ll learn: • The difference between healthy accountability and micromanagement. • Why responsibility without authority creates frustration. • How to delegate without abandoning your team. • How to focus feedback on commitments, barriers, and results. • Why does a consistent review create freedom between checkpoints? Use these four questions to strengthen accountability on your team: 1. What result did we agree upon? 2. Who owns the result? 3. What support or authority is required? 4. When will progress be reviewed? Through a workplace scheduling example and the stewardship principle in Matthew 25:14–30, this episode connects leadership practice with responsible use of what has been entrusted to you. The big idea: Accountability is structured ownership. Your challenge this week: Audit one responsibility on your team using the four questions above. Comment below: Which does your team need most—clearer expectations, greater authority, better support, or a consistent review rhythm?
