Ride and walk with me to Prei Monti, a ruined 9th-century palace-temple site in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It's part of Angkor's first capital, built centuries before Angkor Wat. (Also spelled Preah Monti.) In this POV video you'll see the red dirt road through the villages, the temple sign, the carved stone basin, and the brick towers standing in the forest. Along the way, I share what archaeologists have learned about the site. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Where Angkor really began: Hariharalaya, in the Roluos area Why many scholars now see Prei Monti as a royal palace compound How 9th-century Chinese and Middle Eastern pottery turned up here Indravarman I's huge reservoir, the Indratataka Why the palace is gone but the brick towers survived Sources disagree on some details. The sign on site says mid-9th century, while other sources say 9th to 10th. Historians also debate whether Jayavarman III or Indravarman I built it. I tried to show the main views. If you know more, tell me in the comments and I'll pin or correct. Go early when it's quiet, bring water, and don't climb on the ruins. Please leave nothing behind. If you enjoyed this walk, like and subscribe for more hidden corners of Cambodia. Which place should I walk next? Tell me in the comments. #PreiMonti #SiemReap #Cambodia
