They give him the perfect weapon he demanded — and curse the perfection itself. II — TWELVE AT SAMSØ Tyrfing passes to Angantýr and the twelve berserker brothers. Everyone loses. Hjálmarr receives the sword's first great evil. III — WAKE, ANGANTÝR Hervör walks alone among the burning burial mounds of Samsø and calls her dead father from the grave. He warns her that Tyrfing will destroy her descendants. She takes it anyway. IV — THE MOTHER'S GIFT Years later Hervör gives Tyrfing to her banished son Heidrek. The first blood it finds is his brother's. V — NOTHING WITHSTOOD IT Heidrek builds power through a weapon that never fails. The music sounds like his victory anthem. It is not his anthem. It belongs to the sword. VI — THE LAST RIDDLE A mysterious old man challenges Heidrek with riddles. Only at the final question does Heidrek understand who sits before him. He draws Tyrfing against Odin himself — and for the first time the completed sword-theme brings no blood. VII — THRALLS IN THE NIGHT The prophecy is fulfilled. Heidrek's own thralls take Tyrfing and murder him with it. The third evil is complete. The curse is spent. The sword is not. VIII — HALF THE INHERITANCE Heidrek's sons divide an inheritance that cannot truly be divided. The sword is one. The brothers are two. War begins without any curse requiring it. IX — HERVÖR FALLS Another Hervör carries the name of the woman who once raised Tyrfing from the dead. She now rides toward the dead herself. X — DUN HEATH Eight days of war end with Angantýr facing his half-brother Hlöðr. Tyrfing's six-note hymn reaches its most beautiful form. And a brother kills a brother.
