A pastor once told Dag Heward-Mills that if a Muslim slaps you, you don't turn the other cheek - you cut off his hand. It got a laugh, but it shows how easily we set aside what Jesus actually said. From there he tells the story of Judas alongside Peter: all twelve disciples looked the same until Thursday night, when every one of them ran. Peter swore he never knew Jesus. Judas returned the thirty pieces of silver and told the Pharisees he had betrayed innocent blood. He was genuinely remorseful - but he went and hanged himself instead of going back to Jesus. Meanwhile, on the cross, Jesus prayed Father forgive them. He would have forgiven Judas instantly. The difference was not the sin but the relationship. Knowing Jesus is not the same as attending church.
