Sportsland SUGO is finally in Gran Turismo 7. Update 1.72, Spec IV Part 1, landed this week with the first new Asia Oceania circuit since launch, six new cars and Car Concierge. Today is my first proper session on it, live.
So is Spec IV actually worth it? A real circuit the series has never had, a Xiaomi Vision GT with around 2,000 horsepower on this week's Time Trial, and a Ferrari F355 sitting in Used Cars. On paper, yes. Let's find out on track.
SUGO is 3.6 km of old school Japanese circuit cut into the hills of Miyagi, and the elevation is the whole story. The drop from the main straight into Turn 1 punishes anyone who brakes over the crest. SP Corner, the long double apex, asks you to commit to the first apex before you know whether the second one will hold you. And the climb back up to the final corner is so steep that traction out of the last sequence decides your entire straight. Since update 1.71, front engined rear drive cars have found grip they never had before, and SUGO is exactly the kind of track that shows it.
On the list today: first laps in the Mazda RX VISION GT3 EVO, a Time Trial run in the Xiaomi Vision GT, and the Ferrari F355 because it would be rude not to.
