In this video I visited Tulip Top Gardens, just north of Canberra, to photograph the tulips, cherry blossoms and the beautiful shaded walkways that make this place feel so peaceful. Every spring I spend time at Floriade, but I also love exploring the quieter gardens around the region — and Tulip Top has become one of my favourites.
As a photographer, I really appreciate how easy it is to work here. There are clean backgrounds, no light poles, plenty of shade, and lots of space to slow down and look for compositions. The cherry blossoms along the creek were a highlight, and the waterfall adds a lovely bit of movement to the scene. It’s also dog‑friendly, family‑friendly, and parking is simple — which is a nice change from the current roadworks around Floriade.
Of course, Tulip Top isn’t free, and it’s not the most convenient spot if you’re visiting Canberra without a car. But each place has its own charm. Floriade brings the festival atmosphere, the scale, and the energy… while Tulip Top offers calm, colour, and room to breathe.
In the end, I think both are worth visiting — they each give you a different way to enjoy spring in Canberra.
We finished the morning with brunch at Little Sutton Bakery, which I absolutely recommend if you’re in the area. Their avo toast never disappoints.
Thanks for watching, and I hope this inspires you to get out and enjoy the season.
