SANATAN DAS BAUL

A great soul has left us (Feb 2016). When I first saw Sanatan Das in the early 1980's, he was already one of the last of the older generation of Bauls. He was gracious and generous when I showed up at his village unannounced, with my friend Kalu Fakir. I saw him many times at the Jaidev Mela and at other places, and filmed him a number of times. He was a small skinny guy, but when singing and dancing he was a giant. His voice soared and his dancing was magical.
