What does it mean for abortion to be legal if accessing it still comes with conditions, questions, stigma and barriers? Through a conversation about abortion and the law, this animation asks us to look beyond legality alone. Whose identities are recognised? Who is able to access abortion care? Who gets to make decisions about a pregnancy? And how do families, institutions, healthcare systems and social norms shape what is ultimately a deeply personal decision? This International Safe Abortion Day, the global call is for Solidarity in Action, advancing reproductive justice and strengthening health systems for comprehensive abortion care. That means recognising abortion not simply as a procedure, but as care that must be safe, accessible, timely, respectful and free from coercion and judgement. Because care does not begin and end at the doors of a clinic. Care is having accurate information. Care is being listened to without judgement. Care is privacy and confidentiality. Care is having your identity and circumstances respected. Care is being able to make decisions about your own body. And an inclusive and affirmative healthcare system must make that care possible for everyone who may need an abortion, across gender, caste, class, age, disability, sexuality, geography and other realities that shape access. On #InternationalSafeAbortionDay, we ask: What would our laws, health systems and communities look like if they centred the person seeking an abortion and the care they deserve? Because abortion care is healthcare, and care must centre dignity, autonomy and choice. Special mention to Shijo George for the animation. #InternationalSafeAbortionDay #September28 #AbortionCare #ComprehensiveAbortionCare #ReproductiveJustice #BodilyAutonomy #AbortionRights #SRHR #SolidarityInAction
