MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE PLAYTHROUGH (MEGA DRIVE)

A playthrough of the scrappy Mega Drive beat-em-up Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The game is pure fan service from start to finish, beginning with an excellent 16-bit rendition of the Power Rangers theme tune which plays over the titles. All of the rangers are present and correct as playable characters - with fun, unique attack animations - and can be swapped in between stages or upon using a credit. Additionally the Mega Zords show up as playable characters during boss battles. You'll face waves of ooze-men, putties, and other familiar foes from the TV series and 1995 movie, though three bouts with Goldar in a game this short is probably pushing it. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie isn't too demanding for a playthrough, with three health bars per credit and frequent refills, though there are a few tricky spots - including a cave where only trial and error will see you find the correct route, and the final stage where fireballs rain down around you. I found staying on one plane, ie. the bottom of the screen, makes it easier to dodge them. As was often the case in the 1990s, the Mega Drive edition of this game is completely different to its counterpart on the Super Nintendo and other consoles, fuelling endless debate over which edition was best.
