Fall 2026 Seminar: Future for Global Health and Role of the World Bank Group

September 17, 2026 - Dr. Mickey Chopra Recent upheavals in the funding for global health risk reversing the gains made over decades of progress. This talk describes how the World Bank Group is facing up to the challenge. Dr. Chopra describes a renewed focus on primary healthcare and stronger health systems, even as more of its decision makers come from outside the health field. He also discusses how the Bank is making the case for health investment by connecting it to jobs and economic growth. Additionally, he touches on emerging priorities like better quality care, digital health and AI, drug and vaccine manufacturing, and fairer access to care, along with how changes in climate funding are affecting health investment.
