BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi has brought Narendra Modi, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping into the same geopolitical frame — at a time when wars, economic tensions and the changing global order are putting the expanded BRICS bloc under unprecedented pressure. The 18th BRICS Summit is being hosted by India in New Delhi, with the expanded grouping now representing roughly half of the world's population and around 40% of global GDP by purchasing-power measures. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already arrived in New Delhi, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is making his first India visit in almost seven years. Modi and Putin have also held discussions covering bilateral cooperation, energy, defence and major global conflicts. But the biggest question is not simply what happens inside the BRICS summit. It is: Can India use BRICS to reshape the global power balance while simultaneously managing its relationships with China, Russia, Iran and the West? The Modi-Xi meeting is particularly significant. India-China relations have shown signs of cautious improvement, but major differences remain over the border, trade imbalance and strategic competition. Beijing has also called for the two countries to properly handle their differences ahead of the meeting.
