This Wright Cyclone 1820 engine has not run since the Second World War. It is one of the two engines that were mounted on our DC-2 when it was on display for 20 years at Albury Airport. It was rebuilt over three years by two of our volunteers, Tom Henderson, assisted by Neil Jacobs. Piston rings and a new main bearing were installed, and a custom stand was built for it by Tom. The fuel tank is a repurposed oxygen tank from a War era bomber. This footage is the first startup attempt on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 and a short clip of its first public run at our hangar Open Day on Saturday, October 24, the 92nd anniversary of the night landing of the original KLM ‘Uiver’ on Albury Racecourse on the last leg of the London-Melbourne Air Race of 1934.
