The Unfortunate Lad

The Unfortunate Lad | A Port Elizabeth Folk Ballad A haunting folk ballad set in the streets of old Port Elizabeth, South Africa, telling the story of a young man facing the consequences of one fateful night. Inspired by traditional tragic folk songs, *“The Unfortunate Lad”* brings the story home to St George’s Hospital, the old harbour, and the dark waters of Algoa Bay. With themes of regret, lost youth, friendship, and the fragility of life, this is a song about the mistakes we make, the roads we take, and the people who never make it home. From the cold winter streets to the wind sweeping across the bay, this is a tribute to the unfortunate lads whose stories became warnings for those left behind. “Raise one last glass for the unfortunate lad — then turn around and walk away.” 🎵 Listen, reflect, and remember.
