OS Lecture 3 – Multiprogramming and Multitasking in Operating System | Operating System Lecture 3 | OS Complete Course | Cyber Shala
Welcome to Cyber Shala! 💻📚
📖 ABOUT THIS LECTURE
In this third lecture of our Operating System (OS) series, we continue learning important concepts related to how an Operating System manages CPU and multiple programs.
In Lecture 3 – Multiprogramming and Multitasking, we will understand the concepts of multiprogramming and multitasking, how they work, why they are needed, and how they improve the utilization and efficiency of a computer system.
Whether you are a BCA, BSc CS, BSc IT, BE/BTech, Diploma, or Computer Science student, this lecture will help you understand these important OS concepts in a simple and easy-to-follow way.
💻 WHAT IS MULTIPROGRAMMING?
Multiprogramming is a technique in which multiple programs are kept in main memory at the same time, allowing the CPU to switch between them and remain utilized while one program is waiting for an I/O operation.
💻 WHAT IS MULTITASKING?
Multitasking is the ability of an Operating System to execute multiple tasks or processes seemingly at the same time by rapidly switching the CPU between them.
In this lecture, we'll understand the difference between multiprogramming and multitasking with examples and diagrams.
