Welcome back! In this video, Dave and Col dive into one of the most brutal and decisive campaigns of World War II: the Battle of Guadalcanal. Fought between August 1942 and February 1943 in the Solomon Islands, this six-month struggle marked the Allies' first major offensive against Japan in the Pacific. When Japanese forces began building an airfield on Guadalcanal, the threat to supply lines between the United States and Australia became undeniable. U.S. Marines landed in August 1942, seizing the unfinished airfield, later named Henderson Field, sparking a grinding battle fought across steaming jungles, deadly rivers, and the treacherous waters of "Ironbottom Sound," where fierce naval clashes determined who could keep their troops fed and supplied. In this video, you'll see sunken US and Japanese aircraft , the graveyards if the pilots that took to the skies By February 1943, Japan's starving survivors were secretly evacuated, and the island fell firmly into Allied hands. Guadalcanal was Japan's first major land defeat of the war and the true beginning of the island-hopping campaign that would carry Allied forces all the way to Tokyo.
