Armed with axes, big dreams, and seven very different personalities, they set out to build a new life among towering evergreens, mountain streams, and unforgiving winters. But the wilderness has a few lessons of its own to teach. The Finnish Literary Connection: This song is inspired by Seven Brothers (Seitsemän veljestä), the legendary 1870 novel by Finnish author Aleksis Kivi, widely regarded as one of the founding works of Finnish-language literature. The original story follows seven brothers who rebel against society's expectations and retreat into the Finnish wilderness, where their adventures, struggles, and often hilarious disagreements gradually teach them the meaning of responsibility, brotherhood, and personal growth. For this American adaptation, I've transported the brothers from the forests of Finland to the remote Selkirk Mountains of northeastern Washington State. The names have changed. The mountains are bigger. But the stubbornness? That's still 100% Finnish! About the Music; Musically, Selkirk Mountain Boogie combines heavy, guitar-driven swamp blues rock with a swinging boogie groove, punchy upright slap bass, Hammond B3 organ, and powerful male baritone vocals.
