Black Cilice (Portugal) - Votive Fire (Album 2026)

The 7th full-length release from the master of lusitanian darkness Undoubtedly one of the most influential Raw Black Metal projects ever, and particularly so in the post-LLN millieu, Black Cilice remains unyielding in its devotion to its roots and essence, to the past currents of Black Metal and alchemy that shaped its granite semblance. Solidified yet eerily shapeshifting, and absolutely irreproducible. In "Votive Fire", maybe the biggest difference is the song lengths. This album comprises solely of 4 tracks, the shortest having 7 minutes of length. This monolithic song structures, creating a droning barrage of dungeon trance and transcendental mantra carry however the simpleness and majesty of the project's sorrowful myrrh-drenched melodies and timeless energy that spreads through eons to plague the dead and the living. The production is maybe closer to "Transfixion of Spirits" as it is still somewhat solidly produced and clean but very much dense and fog-like. Absolutely brilliant record, and maybe my favorite from the project since 2017's "Banished from Time" Out on LP and CD via Iron Bonehead Productions.
