The Itatiaia National Park was founded in 1937 as Brazil's first National Park. The Atlantic Rainforest stretches along the entire east coast of Brazil and it once was the second largest rainforest on earth, only behind the Amazon, before 85% has been deforested. The Atlantic Rainforest is one of the best studied tropical ecosystems with over 800 species of birds. During our stay in Itatiaia National Park, we have visited the folling bird watching hotspots: Hotel do Ypê Mirante do Último Adeus Hotel Donati Agulhas Negras Road Itatiaia parte alta (Posto Marcão, Abrigo Rebouças) Vale do Narcejão (Snipe Valley) Hotel Simon Trilha dos Puris (Puris-Trail) Trilha dos Três Picos (Three-Peaks-Trail) RJ-139 Pirai a Passa Três (Transfer to REGUA) Welcome to our two week journey in July 2025 to the Atlantic Rainforest. In Part 2 we stayed 4 nights at the amazing Hotel do Ypê in the Itatiaia National Park. We would like to thank our amazing guide Ricardo Barbosa for this unforgettable experience.
