Saudi Arabia appeal to China and America: Beijing asks Iran to rein in Houthis Decode With Sudhir Chaudhary: China has reportedly privately asked Iran to use its influence over Yemen’s Houthis to help rein in the group after Saudi Arabia appealed to Beijing for help. According to three Iranian sources cited by Reuters, Houthi advances along Yemen’s Red Sea coast and around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait have increased risks to Saudi oil exports and shipping. Saudi Arabia had also sought direct US military assistance against the Houthis, but Washington declined direct military action for now, while offering intelligence and targeting support. At the same time, the United States has approved a potential sale of 48 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, estimated at $24.3 billion. The developments put China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the US at the centre of the escalating Red Sea crisis.
