#offroad #overland #camping We went south down the Hume Highway through the Southern Highlands of NSW to Belanglo State Forest thinking that it had reopened. We were wrong. Even though it's been nearly 3 years the tracks have still not been repaired? I hope its not another lock out of 4WD enthusiasts? There are obviously a large number of feral deer as the deer hunters have not been able to access Belanglo for nearly 3 years as well. Anyway, with it still closed we drove further south to Wingello State Forest. Wingello has the usual pine plantations as well as some lovely old growth forest. Its very popular with mountain bike riders and hikers as well as the 4x4 community. We had a very satisfying day of four-wheel-driving, exploring the tracks, an empty dam and last but not least, the quarry. The weather was great too; nice and sunny. The 80 Series Toyota Landcruiser and the Mitsubishi Challenger performed well as the terrain was challenging. we even had to use diff locks and Phils Limited Slip Diff. Slightly muddy and with numerous washouts we had a lot of fun! The new mound of dirt in the quarry is unstable and dangerous to drive but we tried it.
