“CROWS KNOW MY NAME” — an original dark country song by THE BONEPICKER. Three crows on a fence. A black horse that suddenly won’t move. A farmhouse with one light burning. And somewhere in the dark, something already knows his name. “Crows Know My Name” is a Southern Gothic dark-country story about omens, death, paranoia, and the feeling that something has been following you for much longer than you realize. Built around a dirty hypnotic banjo riff, deep floor toms, mournful western atmosphere, cinematic tension, and The Bonepicker’s deep weathered raspy vocals — slowly building until the entire song erupts into a frantic final section. THE BONEPICKER Dark country from the other side. LYRICS: Three crows on the fence. Been there since sundown. They know something. Black horse drinking From a rusted trough, Moon cut thin And the north wind soft. Passed an old farmhouse With one window lit, Saw my own shadow Standing inside of it. I stopped breathing. Horse did the same. Then three black crows Started calling my name. One said run. One said stay. Third one laughed— And looked my waaaaaaaaay. The crows know my naaaaaaaaaaaaaame, They’ve been following me for miles. Sitting on the crosses, Watching from the wires. The crows know my naaaaaaaaaaaaaame, Every wrong turn that I made. If they’re waiting where I’m going— Then somebody dug my graaaaaaaaaaaaaave. Found a coat Hanging from a dead oak limb. Same black leather. Same tear at the hem. Found my hat Lying underneath. Still warm inside. That bothered me. Then I heard hoofbeats Coming through the rain— But my black horse Was standing beside me. One crow flew. Two stayed still. Then something behind me said— “You will.” The crows know my naaaaaaaaaaaaaame, They’ve been following me for miles. Sitting on the crosses, Watching from the wires. The crows know my naaaaaaaaaaaaaame, Every wrong turn that I made. If they’re waiting where I’m going— Then somebody dug my graaaaaaaaaaaaaave. I turned around. Nothing there. Then the horse looked past me. That’s when I knew. One crow. Two crows. Three in the sky. Four on the fence— And five flying hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Six in the field. Seven by the flame. Then every damn crow in the valley screamed— MY NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME! THE CROWS KNOW MY NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME! Let ’em circle overhead! Let ’em follow every mile Till they think that I’m dead! THE CROWS KNOW MY NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME! But they don’t know where I’ve been! If they’re waiting at my grave— Tell ’em I AIN’T GETTING IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN! Wrong man.
