You play a gig, end on a double D, put the trumpet in the case and take time off. Then your chops get stiff, they don't recover, and your endurance and range go with them. Time off isn't the fix. Warming your face back down is.
In this lesson I show you how one simple pedal tone exercise flushes the lactic acid out of your face, re-centers your chops and connects your low register to the embouchure you use in the double and triple register. You get the two parts of the embouchure that should never change, the C down to pedal C test (if you can get to pedal C, you're ahead of most other trumpet players), and the one question to ask when your pedals feel easy going down but hard coming back up. Then you play along with me on all four exercises, with the sheet music on screen. Grab the free sheet music at the top of this description so you can play along.
If your pedals are easy going down but hard coming back up, that's not a pedal tone problem. That's an aperture change dressed up as a range problem.
