These Bones Will Live | Ellery Stone

Ezekiel was a priest carried off into exile in Babylon, prophesying among the captives by the Chebar canal. In this vision the hand of the Lord sets him down in a valley full of bones, very many of them and very dry, and walks him through the middle of them. God asks whether the bones can live, and Ezekiel answers, Lord God, you know. He is told to prophesy to them, and there is a rattling, and bone comes to bone and takes on sinew and flesh and skin, with no breath in any of it. Then he prophesies to the breath, and they stand up. The song puts the singer in that valley and makes it hers. The closer on Called by Name, twelve folk songs, and the strangest thing on the record: hurdy-gurdy drone, frame drums, bone rattles, and a low wordless choir.
