After my last video about the Ozarks, people who actually live there started writing to me. Not to argue
— to add. One of them told me the real danger isn't the geography at all: it's the tourists on holiday
weekends, and that when those weekends come, he stays home. Another told me about the highway he lives
on, and the five wrecks he has watched happen practically in his own yard since 2012.
So this list is built around what locals know and visitors don't.
These are 15 places in the Ozarks that the people who live there treat with a caution most visitors never
do: back roads with no guardrail and no signal, wilderness where every ridge looks the same, spring water
that stays at 55 degrees in August, thousands of unmapped caves, a spring over 310 feet deep, a mountain
that let go 1.5 billion gallons of water in 2005, a town the government bought and emptied because the
ground underneath it was poison, and a lake that took 17 lives in a single storm.
Which one surprised you the most? And if you live in the Ozarks — what did I miss? Tell me in the
comments. I read every single one, and they shape what I cover next.
