How do onshore wind and solar projects move from concept to construction, and how can permitting become a catalyst for innovation instead of a bottleneck?
In this week's Hugo Neu Sustainability Seminar "From Clearance to Clean-Up: Turning Renewable-Energy Vegetation Waste into Remediation-Grade Biochar," we explore the early, and often overlooked stages of renewable energy development, focusing on the permitting processes that ensure environmental compliance and community engagement.
Permitting isn’t just paperwork, it influences real‑world outcomes. This seminar highlights an opportunity during site preparation: converting cleared vegetation into remediation‑grade biochar using portable, modular systems. This circular approach can cut hauling and disposal costs, sequester carbon and create local materials for remediating contaminants like PFAS and metals, transforming compliance into environmental innovation.
