Inside A Beckenham Home Designed For Work And Family Life - That Feeling You Call Home

Inside this Beckenham home, writer Katherine Slee reflects on what home really means to her - not as a style or statement, but as a space shaped around family life, work, routine and togetherness. Designed to support both focused work and everyday living, the home balances openness with separation, allowing each part of daily life to exist without compromise. Large openings connect the interior to the garden beyond, while natural materials, personal objects and quiet rituals bring warmth and character to the space. Throughout the tour, Katherine shares the details that make the house feel personal. From the supper bell used to call the children down for dinner, to the office designed for clarity and focus, the home reveals itself through the way it is lived in rather than simply how it looks. The garden, designed and built by Willow Alexander Gardens, continues this connection outdoors. Layered planting, relaxed seating areas and an outdoor kitchen create spaces designed for gathering, slowing down and spending time together. This is a home designed not for show, but for living - where architecture, objects and everyday routines come together over time.
