The Ontario Government introduced this week a cash bail measure whereby sureties are required to pay the full amount of the bond within two days of the accused's release. This is a new measure that was not in place in Ontario. It was implemented on short notice and took many of the justice system participants by surprise. This new cash bail system raises a lot of concerns and questions. The constitutional validity of this new measure is already being questioned. Some legal groups have already applied to challenge the new measures and a hearing is scheduled to take place next week. Returning this week to talk about this new cash bail system is friend of the show and one of our favorite guests, the one and only Alison Craig.
